Prayer and Collective Worship at Christ The King

Prayer, reflection and worship are at the heart of life at Christ the King. Throughout the year, we celebrate key moments in the Church’s liturgical calendar through Mass, liturgy services, adoration and the sacraments, including the Eucharist and Reconciliation. Worship takes place on many different scales to reflect the size and nature of our school community, from intimate class Masses and year group worship to site-wide liturgies across Infant and Junior phases, as well as whole-school celebrations where both sites come together. Alongside these opportunities, we nurture a deep and meaningful prayer life through child-led Celebration of the Word, Christian Meditation, Visio Divina and Lectio Divina, enabling children to grow in faith, confidence and independence as they plan, lead and respond to worship.

  • Daily Prayer

Prayer is part of the rhythm of each school day. We begin with a morning prayer, give thanks before lunch, and end the day with a blessing. Children use age-appropriate set prayers, and older pupils often bring in prayers they have learned on retreat, sometimes creatively expressed through familiar tunes and chants.

  • A Culture of Prayer

Our school has a strong culture of prayer that underpins daily life. Children are actively involved in planning and leading worship through child-led Celebrations of the Word, supported progressively as they grow in confidence. We draw on a variety of forms of prayer and reflection, including Christian Meditation, Personal Prayer, Lectio Divina and Visio Divina, ensuring that Scripture remains central. Our chaplaincy team plays a key role in leading worship across the school and supporting younger pupils, fostering a shared sense of faith and community.

  • Rosary Resources

We provide opportunities and resources for praying the Rosary, particularly during key times such as the month of October and May. Our Juniors are invited to a weekly Rosary Club each Thursday. You can access our Rosary resources: CLICK HERE

  • Home/School Prayer and Worship

Homework is sent for families to complete together throughout the year. This ranges from talking about the mission statement to exploring ways to encounter Christ at home. During October, we hold a Rosary Club, where we invite the children to bring in their own Rosary beads from home. We also send out the Travelling Rosary to families during this month. In November, we ask our school community to submit names of loved ones to be remembered during the feast of All Saints and All Souls. During Advent, a travelling Nativity is sent home to encourage families to share the story of Jesus’s birth. Similarly, during Lent, prayer bags are sent home to help families pray together throughout this important season. Parents and carers are invited to all school masses and class masses, and are encouraged to leave comments about their experiences.
