Our Classics curriculum is delivered through a scheme called ‘Minimus’ provided by Classics for All. We are supported in our teaching of Classics by the East Midlands Classics Hub and Leicester University. Classics for All provides us with a fully funded programme of resources, training and support which allows our staff to learn alongside the children and develop their own knowledge of ancient language, history and culture.

The intent of the Classics curriculum is as follows:

· To provide children with an opportunity that they might not have access to at any other point in their education.

· To further develop children’s vocabulary knowledge as over 50% of the English language derives from Latin

· To help our children form mental models by linking their study of Classics to other aspects of our bespoke curriculum such as History, English and RE.

· To provide an aspirational, knowledge-based curriculum for our children that may help those who wish to enter professions such as medicine and the law in the future.

· To provide background knowledge to support the children’s understanding of the mass and other aspects of Catholic worship.

Children are taught roughly 6 sessions of Classics each half term. Lessons follow the Minimus resources provided by Classics for All and contain a combination of translation, vocabulary, grammar, classical history and mythology.
